Free Live Entertainment

Kick off your summer weekends in style every Friday evening at Balboa Park’s hottest after-hours event. Visitors of all ages can enjoy live entertainment while eating gourmet dishes from a rotating selection of more than a dozen food trucks parked on the Plaza de Panama and El Prado walkway from 4:00 to 8:30 pm. Food Truck Fridays is a program of the Balboa Park Conservancy in partnership with the City of San Diego Parks and Recreation Department and is a key placemaking initiative for the Conservancy and city.

In 2016, Food Truck Friday helped turn Balboa Park into a popular date-night destination, giving thousands of park visitors a unique opportunity to sample a diverse selection of local food trucks, serving everything from appetizers and main courses to desserts and specialty beverages, all in one convenient location. Food Truck Friday presents musical performers, DJs, and/or dance groups each Friday night in the Plaza de Panama. The Plaza’s “living room” setup is rolled out, including a large artificial lawn for children to play on, a giant checkers set, and oversized beanbags; and various park organizations host hands-on activities.

Select park museums are open after hours, some offering special admission discounts and programs. Visitors can bring lawn chairs or a blanket to sit in the lawn area in front of the Botanical Building, or enjoy craft beers, wine, and cocktails inside the nearby Panama 66 and Prado restaurants.

Food Truck Fridays is presented in conjunction with the City of San Diego Parks and Recreation Department and is funded in part by the City of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture.
