Fridays, June 2 – September 29
4:00pm – 8:30pm
Plaza de Panama/El Prado walkway
Free Live Entertainment
Kick off your summer weekends in style every Friday evening at Balboa Park’s hottest after-hours event. Visitors of all ages can enjoy live entertainment while eating gourmet dishes from a rotating selection of more than a dozen food trucks parked on the Plaza de Panama and El Prado walkway from 4:00 to 8:30 pm. Celebrating its second year, the Food Truck Friday is a program of the Balboa Park Conservancy in partnership with the City of San Diego Park and Recreation Department.
In 2016, Food Truck Friday helped turn Balboa Park into a popular date-night destination, giving thousands of park visitors a unique opportunity to sample a diverse selection of local food trucks, serving everything from appetizers and main courses to desserts and specialty beverages, all in one convenient location.
This year, Food Truck Friday will once again present a different musical performer or group each Friday night in the Plaza de Panama. The Plaza’s “living room” setup will also be rolled out, including a large artificial lawn for children to play on, a giant checkers set, and oversized beanbags; and various park organizations will host hands-on activities. In addition, event sponsors KyXy 96.5 , Energy 103.7 and XEWT 12 will be on hand on select Friday evenings with music and games for families. The adjacent San Diego Museum of Art will continue to offer $5 admission prices to all visitors after 5:00 p.m. on Friday nights, and the Mingei International Museum will also offer $5 admission after 5:00 p.m. beginning July 7. Other select park museums will be open after hours as well (visit www.balboapark.org for details).
Visitors can bring lawn chairs or a blanket to sit in the lawn area in front of the Botanical Building, or enjoy craft beers, wine, and cocktails inside the nearby Panama 66 and Prado restaurants.
